Confessions of a procrastinating Dance Mum

It’s that time of the year again, folks! My little dancing diva, is all set to compete in her first dance comp of 2023, and we're heading to Tauranga for the @launchdancenz dance comp!

I'm excited, but as a dance mum, I'm also a hot mess of nerves. Its 6.30am on Saturday and I’m writing this blog, that’s my nerve level rating!

As I scroll through Instagram, I see so many dance mums showcasing their kids and how diligently they've been practicing for their competitions. And then there's me, the slack dance mum who only started practicing with my baby girl four weeks ago. We gave her a break after her last competition in October that was so long that she's forgotten most of her dance routines. It's like starting from scratch all over again. Oops! But hey, who needs months of practice anyway, right? We're all about keeping things exciting and unpredictable. Bring on the surprises!

We're not taking out any new routines just yet, but little Miss has been bugging me to let her do a self-choreographed routine. I tried to resist, but she wore me down. It's a Hip Hop routine, and I must say, she's done an excellent job with it. She learned it all by herself last week, with NO input from me, the dance mum! It’s really hard for me to do this. If you know me you will know I love to give my opinion, so I’ve had to bite my tongue. But let me tell you, she's got some moves that I didn't even know were possible, so it'll be interesting to see if the judges appreciate her extroverted, in-your-face style.

Last night, we had the "great costume try-on," and let's just say that it was more of a comedy show than a fitting. Our costumes from last year are getting tight, and in some of them, she looked like a sausage trying to escape from its casing! Looks like I'll have to go on another buying spree of dance costumes – we just won't tell dad this time. Rookie error, folks. But hey, that's all part of the fun, isn't it?

As we gear up for the big day, my little one is brimming with excitement, and I'm trying my best to contain my nerves.

We've got a long day ahead of us, but I know baby girl will love being there with her fabulous, talented friends! Lets go baby!
