What is Competition Dancing?

Competition dancing is a highly competitive and physically demanding form of dance that involves skilled dancers performing choreographed routines in front of judges and audiences. It is a popular form of dance that is practiced all around the world, with various styles including ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap, hip hop, and more.

Competitions are typically held at regional, national, and international levels, and dancers compete for awards, titles, and scholarships. Dancers are judged based on their technical ability, artistry, stage presence, and overall performance.

Preparing for a competition requires dedication, hard work, and a lot of practice. Dancers must learn their routines, perfect their technique, and work on their stamina to ensure they are ready for the intense physical demands of the competition.

While competition dancing can be a challenging and demanding pursuit, it is also a rewarding experience that allows dancers to showcase their talent and passion for dance. It can also help dancers develop valuable skills such as teamwork, discipline, and perseverance, which can benefit them in all areas of life.

Competition Dancing isn’t for the faint-hearted. You will have at least one weekly private lesson with your dance teacher (which can cost up to $60 per week), and you will need to complete additional at home practices as well as compete at least monthly on the competition dance scene, which can be very long (but rewarding) days.
